AK is the most common weapon in the Russian Armed Forces, including special forces units. The arsenal of special forces fighters also includes other assault rifles, including AN-94 "Abakan", APS, SR-3 "Vikhr".
AN-94 "Abakan"
Soviet assault rifle developed by Gennady Nikonov. Visually, the AN-94 "Abakan" resembles the AK-74, but has a number of features. Military expert Viktor Murakhovsky explained that the AN-94 barrel moves with the bolt with each shot. This mechanism helped to reduce recoil and increase shooting accuracy.
Compared to the standard AK-74, the AN-94 is considered twice as accurate and easier to operate due to the stabilized shooting mechanics.
<b>SR-3 "Vikhr"</b>
SR-3 "Vikhr" is a Russian assault rifle developed on the basis of the silent assault rifle "Val". In its design, it resembles the PP-19 "Vityaz".
The weapon is equipped with a "dovetail" rail for mounting optics. The assault rifle is capable of hitting targets in 3rd class body armor at a distance of up to 200 meters.
Due to its compactness, the SR-3 "Vikhr" meets the criteria of law enforcement agencies for weapons to protect VIPs at public events.
Underwater assault rifle APS
The assault rifle was created to protect against enemy marines, hitting targets on land and underwater.
The AK-74 was not suitable for underwater shooting, as the bullets fired from it lost speed due to the density of the water. Cartridges that effectively destroyed the target 100 meters from the shooter were powerless against a target located a couple of meters in the water
Cartridges with a needle-type bullet were developed for the APS. Thus, the assault rifle is capable of hitting targets underwater at a distance of 30 meters.
