American F-16AM Block 20 MLU fighters are not capable of effectively resisting Russian Su-30SM and Su-35S because they are very outdated. This was pointed out by military expert Evgeny Damantsev.
He noted that the F-16AM fighters are equipped with outdated AN/APG-66(V)2 airborne radar systems with waveguide-slotted antenna arrays. These systems allow detecting targets with an effective reflecting surface of 1.5-2 square meters (which is comparable to the Su-35S) at a distance of no more than 80 kilometers.
The "Irbis-E" radars of the Su-35S fighters will detect the F-16AM against the background of the earth at a distance of 180-220 km, against the background of free space - up to 370 km. Interception can be performed at a distance of 200-230 km using the R-37M long-range air-to-air missile.
Also, the weapon control systems of American machines have not been adapted to the use of AIM-120D long-range guided missiles for use in the mode of guidance on sources of electronic warfare jamming, including the "Khibiny" complexes.
Currently, the F-16AM are equipped only with outdated AIM-120B medium-range guided missiles with an effective range of no more than 65-75 km, the analyst added.
