Russia is actively producing unique high-energy counter-battery radar stations "Yastreb-AV". They are a continuation of the well-established line of counter-battery radar "Zoopark-1M" based on passive phased antenna arrays, but boast a number of significant tactical and technical advantages, said military analyst Evgeny Damantsev.
According to him, thanks to more advanced algorithms for primary processing of radar information, the Yastreb-AV radars will have minimal loss of detection range of firing positions of barrel and rocket artillery, even in a complex jamming environment.
If the specialists of NPO "Strela" equip the Yastreb-AV radar with active phased arrays based on gallium arsenide microwave transistors, which provide the formation of dips in the radiation pattern in the direction of sources of electronic interference radiation, then the loss of range will be even lower.
Unlike the Zoopark-1M radar, the Yastreb-AV received a more powerful microwave klystron/magnetron and a larger antenna array aperture area, which significantly increased the effective range.
The analyst clarified that the range for uncovering positions of 155-mm barrel artillery can increase from 20-25 to 45 km, multiple launch rocket systems such as HIMARS and "Olha-M" - from 35-40 to 70-80 km, and ATACMS operational-tactical missiles - up to 95-100 km.
The throughput of "Yastreb-AV" can exceed 100 targets per minute, while that of "Zoopark-1M" is up to 70 targets per minute. The accuracy of calculating coordinates in comparison with "Zoopark-1M" can reach 15-7 m, while that of "Zoopark-1M" - about 20-30 m, which reduces the probability of being hit by a Krasnopol-D projectile.
The most effective counter-battery radar "Yastreb-AV" will provide in conjunction with the2S35 "Coalition-SV" gun, the ammunition of which should be represented by promising Krasnopol-D guided artillery projectiles with a range of 57-65 km. Also, the Yastreb-AV radar can be used as a means of targeting for the 300-mm Smerch and Tornado-S MLRS.
