Specialists from the Institute of Oil and Gas Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences have developed a technology that will reduce the negative consequences of deformation processes during the operation of gas fields. A patent has already been obtained for the invention, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science reported.

Currently, extraction companies use technologies where wells are placed directly in the area of undrained sections. This can lead to depressurization of wells and inter-layer gas flow.
The technology developed at the Institute of Oil and Gas Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences solves this problem. The authors proposed drilling additional directional wells in areas with hard-to-recover reserves (HTR) in such a way that the wellheads and the upper part of the wellbores are located outside them. At the same time, the filter part will be located in the productive layers of undrained zones.
The location of these sections can be determined by monitoring the subsidence of the earth's surface, explained the press service of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.
The new technology is attractive from an economic point of view because it does not require additional costs for developing a new drilling technology.
With this method, there is no environmental damage for extractors. In addition, safe development of HTR is ensured, and man-made risks during field development are reduced, summarized the Russian Ministry of Education and Science.
