Russia has developed and patented a method for predicting the loss of communication with a drone. The technology allows tracking changes in several parameters of the communication channel and identifying a steady deterioration of information exchange between the drone and the control point in advance. The development was carried out by Sergey Kosmatov, a lecturer at the Higher School of Cybernetics and Digital Technologies of the Polytechnic Institute of Pacific State University (TOGU).

The technology is designed to monitor the stability of the communication channel between an unmanned aerial vehicle and a control point. The system looks not at one indicator, but at several parameters of information exchange at once.
If they begin to steadily change in an unfavorable direction, the method records this trend and generates a warning. That is, the system reacts not after communication has already been lost, but tries to notice the development of the problem in advance.
This is the main difference between this development and an approach where the system reports a violation only after it has already occurred.
The idea came to the researchers while studying methods for assessing the quality of network interaction based on a set of parameters measured directly on the end devices of the network.
The practical significance of such a task was also shown by a real case. During the experiment, the researchers encountered a loss of communication with the drone, after which the question of how to notice the approach of such a situation in advance became particularly relevant.
According to the authors' idea, the method should find, by a set of changing parameters, signs that the communication channel is gradually becoming less stable. However, the patent describes only one of the options for such monitoring. In the future, scientists intend to study the capabilities of the method, its limitations, and the conditions under which it can be applied.
