India is considering ways to reduce the radar visibility of its fleet of heavy Su-30MKI fighters. Individual stealth elements can be integrated during scheduled overhauls, aiming to approach the characteristics of the American F-35, IDRW agency reported.

Journalists explained that the focus should be on the most vulnerable elements of the airframe to radar detection.
This refers to radar-absorbing materials, air intakes, leading edges, panel joints, fairings, and other surfaces. DRDO has already developed its own radar-absorbing coatings with magnetic functional fillers.
According to them, the problem cannot be solved with a single signal-reflecting coating. A large airframe and traditional aerodynamic design will maintain high visibility.
Therefore, Indian specialists propose selectively modifying areas that generate the strongest reflections, and if necessary, using new composite panels and materials for the cockpit canopy and fairing.
It should be noted that India has contracted 284 Su-30MKI fighters for a total of about $15 billion throughout its cooperation with Russia. In 2026, another $8 billion was allocated for the deep modernization of 84 aircraft.
