The pharmaceutical company "Promomed" has begun clinical trials of a new drug against HIV infection. The trials will be the first time this molecule is used in humans.

The new drug belongs to integrase inhibitors – one of the key classes of modern antiretroviral agents. Its molecule prevents the viral genetic material from integrating into human cell DNA, which blocks the reproduction of the pathogen.

Integrase inhibitors are considered one of the most effective groups of drugs for treating HIV. In Russia, four such drugs are currently registered and included in clinical guidelines and treatment regimens. As previously noted by the Ministry of Health, active work is underway in Russia to study new targets for the creation of new HIV drugs.

As specified in the Ministry of Health's register, trials of the new drug will be conducted at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, the Moscow City Center for AIDS Prevention and Control, and the AIDS Center in Yekaterinburg. Volunteers with a reduced viral load due to standard therapy are expected to participate in the study.
