Kirill Moskvitin, an engineer from Belgorod, has developed an unusual interceptor drone against UAVs with fiber-optic control. The designer approached the problem from a different angle – he suggested not shooting down the device itself, but "cutting off" the communication line with the operator.

Moskvitin noted that radio jamming does not work against fiber-optic drones, as commands and video are transmitted via a fiber-optic cable.

Therefore, the engineer proposes equipping the interceptor with a spool of thin abrasive cord and a cargo anchor. The device should approach the attacking drone and cross the trajectory of its fiber optic cable.

Upon contact, the cord should disrupt the integrity of the cable due to bending and abrasive action. After losing communication, the attacking UAV becomes uncontrollable.

The declared thickness of the working cord is 0.2–0.5 mm. The spool is designed not only for unwinding but also for rewinding, so the interceptor can be reused and the protected area changed.

Russia is also developing its own fiber-optic drones. One of them is "Knyaz Vandal", which increased its range to 42 km thanks to a new spool.
