The Russian Ministry of Defence has received a patent for a method of attaching a diesel generator unit (DGU) to AKSS-type shock absorbers. The development is intended for self-propelled artillery systems and other military equipment operating under conditions of increased vibrations and loads.

According to the patent description, before installation, shock absorbers are mounted on the DGU, then holes are drilled in the frame, and stop-limiters are installed. These prevent displacement of the drive engine in case of destruction of the shock-absorbing supports. After this, the diesel generator is secured to the frame, and the gap between the stop and the edge of the engine subframe is adjusted to ensure operability.

The essence of the method is as follows: two stop-limiters are installed on the sides inside the DGU subframe. If the shock absorbers are destroyed, these stops will prevent the generator from moving – it will rest against the walls of the subframe and maintain partial operability even if the supports are damaged.

As noted in the patent, the technical solution ensures the operability of the DGU supports under increased loads, and also prevents critical displacement of the unit, which could lead to its complete failure. After installation, the bolted connections are secured with locking elements to prevent self-loosening.
