In the midst of vacation season, scammers have found a new way to deceive travelers – they have started creating fake websites for foreign telecom operators. Outwardly, such pages are almost indistinguishable from real ones, but their goal is to steal personal data, bank card details, and access to user accounts. Kaspersky Lab specialists warned about the new scheme.

Experts have identified phishing sites imitating the pages of major telecom operators: Vodafone, Ooredoo, and The Singtel Group.

On such fake pages, users are offered to log into their personal account or top up their mobile internet balance. But instead of connecting the service, the entered logins, passwords, bank card data, and other personal information are sent to scammers. This can lead to money theft, account hacking, and an increase in unwanted calls.

Experts added that scammers are increasingly using artificial intelligence technologies to create copies that are as similar as possible to real websites. Such pages become more difficult to distinguish from official resources.

To avoid falling for the trick, experts advise that if you do get an eSIM, do so only through official operator applications or trusted providers. If in doubt, it is better to go to company websites through search engines and not enter payment data on unfamiliar internet resources.
