Russia is negotiating with Indonesia on the construction of a spaceport in the island nation. This was announced by the Russian Ambassador to Jakarta, Sergey Tolchenov.
According to him, interest in the project emerged after the Indonesian President's decision to build its own infrastructure for launching rockets with a “payload.”
Based on this, Roscosmos is negotiating with the Indonesians. There may be and are other suppliers of such space technologies, our competitors, but again, we are among those who are of interest to the Indonesians.
The main feature of Indonesia is its geography. The country is located in the equatorial zone, and launching rockets near the equator allows maximum use of the additional speed that the Earth's rotation imparts to its surface. This is especially beneficial for launching satellites into geostationary orbit.
Currently, Russia conducts space launches from three active spaceports – Baikonur, Plesetsk, and Vostochny.
