Specialists from the St. Petersburg State Transport University (PGUPS) have developed self-compacting concrete with increased water resistance and chemical stability. The material is intended for the construction of industrial and civil facilities, as well as marine structures and bridge supports.
The concrete composition uses high-activity Portland cement, granite crushed stone of 3–10 mm fraction, and sand of a certain coarseness. A key role is played by a complex chemical additive — a mixture of polycarboxylate polymers based on methacrylic and maleic acids with nanodispersion of silicon dioxide. It improves the fluidity of the concrete mixture and allows it to compact under its own weight without vibration.
Additional strength and durability are provided by a finely dispersed filler made of blast furnace slag, microsilica, and xanthan gum. This formulation, according to the developers, increases water resistance and resistance to aggressive environments, which is especially important for hydraulic structures.
