The use of agricultural machinery powered by gas fuel (liquefied natural gas, compressed natural gas, and liquefied petroleum gas) by farmers can reduce dependence on diesel fuel. This opinion was expressed by the head of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, Oksana Lut, at a plenary session held within the framework of the "All-Russian Field Day 2026" exhibition in the Altai Krai.

However, this is hindered by an insufficiently developed network of gas refueling infrastructure, the minister added. The department believes that with an increase in the number of natural gas supply stations, farmers will begin to switch to gas-powered machinery.

The Ministry of Agriculture plans that by 2035, Russia will produce about 18.7 thousand units of gas-powered agricultural machinery. Simultaneously, it is expected to increase the number of gas refueling facilities.

The department also intends to develop the direction of hybrid agricultural machinery. Such machines are particularly relevant against the backdrop of rising fuel costs.

In Russia, not many manufacturers produce gas-powered machinery. In particular, "Rostselmash" has developed a high-power tractor based on the "Rostselmash 2375" model of the sixth traction class. It runs on LNG. "RariTEK Holding" produces gas-powered versions of BELARUS 1221.2 tractors.
