The future of the International Space Station will be discussed on July 14 by the heads of Roscosmos and NASA. The talks may determine whether joint operation of the ISS will continue after 2028. The upcoming conversation was announced by the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Bakanov. According to him, the Russian and American sides maintain working cooperation in the field of human spaceflight.
Human spaceflight is exempt from sanctions, so we are in dialogue. But, as you understand, we still have to decide the fate of the ISS before thinking about what will happen next.
The station will definitely be operated until 2028, the state corporation emphasized. At the same time, the period of joint work may be extended following the results of the negotiations.
After the completion of the ISS operation, Russia and the United States plan to develop their own orbital projects. The United States is creating its own space station, and Russia is working on creating the Russian Orbital Station.
According to the head of Roscosmos, when discussing future cooperation, it is necessary to take into account technical solutions, including orbit parameters and other features of the projects.
NASA head Jared Isaacman visited the Baikonur Cosmodrome for the first time in eight years to attend the launch of an international crew to the ISS.
