More expensive because it works: home internet now costs Russians more than mobile communication

The average payment for a wired connection increased to 825 rubles, while for phone it decreased to 568 rubles

Home internet is increasingly becoming a mandatory expense item. In the first half of the year, the average check for a wired connection increased from 805 to 825 rubles, according to calculations by "Russkiy Standart" Bank.

Mobile communication is moving in the opposite direction. The average payment decreased from 628 to 568 rubles, although Russians started topping up their balance 18% more often. It seems many are less likely to deposit a large sum at once and more often add money as needed.

March became the most expensive month for home internet – the average check reached 839 rubles. This period coincided with mobile internet restrictions in Moscow, but the bank does not link one to the other and does not explain the reasons for the increase.

As a result, Russians did not start paying less for communication: it's just that home network is becoming more expensive as a permanent service, while mobile internet is increasingly paid for in small portions.
