Scientists have launched pilot projects to enrich large language models with data from Russian archaeological periodicals, said Nikolai Makarov, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Director of the Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
According to Makarov, this is necessary so that users can receive reliable answers to correctly posed questions based on verified scientific academic data. Historians and archaeologists work with huge arrays of empirical materials that are difficult to navigate, and artificial intelligence will primarily become a navigator for them. The project is supported by the Ministry of Science of the Russian Federation.
Makarov added that there are other areas of work: systematization and processing of visual materials – images of artifacts, of which a huge number have also been accumulated, as well as the use of neural networks in reconnaissance for processing satellite images and remote sensing data.
