Unique 3-in-1 vessel: icebreaker, rescuer, and firefighter, to operate on the Northern Sea Route.

"Ak Bars" to strengthen the Arctic Fleet with a new type of universal platform

A new multifunctional vessel with combined capabilities of an icebreaker, rescuer, tugboat, and firefighter, developed by the Ak Bars Shipbuilding Corporation, will be sent to the Northern Sea Route. The project is positioned as a universal platform for operations in challenging Arctic conditions and is designed for use by regional services and maritime rescue organizations.

As Renat Mistakhov, CEO of the corporation, stated during the International Maritime Defense Show "Fleet-2026", the idea behind the project is maximum functional integration. According to him, the vessel is designed to simultaneously perform icebreaking support, rescue operations, towing, and firefighting, which eliminates the need to deploy several specialized fleet units for different tasks.

It is noted that the development was carried out jointly with Russian design bureaus within the framework of grant programs for creating "3-in-1" format vessels. Such solutions are aimed at increasing the efficiency of fleet operation in remote and challenging areas, including the Arctic.

These vessels are planned to be operated by regional services and Morspassluzhba (Marine Rescue Service), as well as on the Northern Sea Route, where a combination of ice class and emergency rescue capabilities is required.
