Russia is working on a satellite constellation to control heavy drones. This was announced by President Vladimir Putin.

We are building up a low-orbit constellation. The question is when it will be fully launched, but the work is not just established, it is proceeding at a good pace and with good quality.

Putin added that the new domestic low-orbit satellite constellation "Rassvet" from the company "Buro-1440" will not be inferior to Starlink, and may even be better.

The structure that this low-orbit satellite constellation is engaged in is in no way inferior to Starlink, and may even surpass it in some respects.

However, while there is no satellite constellation, drones, including "Geran" operate using efficient mesh networks. The main feature of this scheme is the absence of a rigid link to a single satellite channel. Each UAV can act as a signal repeater, forming a single network directly in the air.

However, Mesh networks also have their drawbacks, noted military observer Vlad Shlepchenko. Their effectiveness decreases if a repeater is installed on the ground, due to any other obstacles to the signal.
