Why the production of new aircraft in Russia is stalling: key reasons named

The industry faced a shortage of components and a halt in orders from related industries due to underfunding

Delays in launching and expanding serial production of aircraft and supplying components are being recorded in the Russian civil aviation industry. The main reasons cited are a deficit of funding and disrupted supplier cooperation, which directly affects the pace of assembling new airliners. This was stated by Oleg Smirnov, Honored Pilot of the USSR and flight safety expert.

The aviation expert noted that the country's basic production capacities have been preserved, but a significant part of enterprises that previously produced parts for aviation eventually ceased operations. This led to the need to virtually rebuild supply chains and create new production facilities.

The situation with the Il-114-300 project is particularly emphasized. Despite the fact that the aircraft was presented and received certification, the launch of full-scale serial production proved difficult. The reason was the suspension or lack of budget funding, due to which factories cannot place orders for components with related industries.

Budget money ran out. The factory does not have the funds to order the necessary number of components from related industries. This means that the aircraft exists, production in Lukhovitsy is ready for work, some fuselages have been assembled, but production cannot be organized.

The expert also noted that serial production in aviation requires large-scale cooperation: it involves millions of parts and hundreds of suppliers, and restoring this system takes a long time. The industry also points out that without stable state orders and guaranteed funding, related enterprises cannot organize the production of components at their own expense.

Earlier, the head of Rosaviatsiya stated that Russian airlines will need about 60 SJ-100 aircraft by the end of the decade, and the head of Rostec, Sergey Chemezov, announced that the first 4-5 MS-21 aircraft will be delivered in 2027.
