Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant (CHTZ-Uralspecmash), which produces engines for T-90 "Proryv", T-80BVM, and T-72B3M tanks, is on the verge of bankruptcy. The total debt of the enterprise to the electricity supplier, Uralenergosbyt company, has reached 741 million rubles. Of these, 545 million is for unpaid electricity, and 196 million is for accrued penalties.
The supplier states that the plant systematically increases its debt in the absence of clear mechanisms for its settlement. They called the situation catastrophic. Over the past two months, CHTZ has violated its own payment guarantees three times. Uralenergosbyt has no doubts about the outcome of the next court hearing: in March, the plant already lost an appeal regarding accrued penalties.
If the situation does not change, the company will be forced to use all legal instruments, including bankruptcy proceedings.
CHTZ itself does not officially comment on the situation. However, in court, representatives of the enterprise stated that exorbitant fines undermine the financial stability of the plant, which, among other things, fulfills a defense order.
CHTZ-Uralspecmash is part of the Uralvagonzavod concern (a Rostec structure) and is a leading Russian manufacturer of industrial special equipment and diesel engines. This is where power units for the main Russian battle tanks are made.
