Russian Navy Missile Boats Begin Protecting Themselves with "Mangals" from T-90M "Proryv" Tanks

A metal structure was spotted above the deck and wheelhouse of a Project 21980 vessel

A photo of a Project 21980 "Grachonok" anti-sabotage boat has appeared online. The naval vessel was equipped for the first time with a massive lattice structure – the same "mangal" for protection against drones.

The frame shows that the metal grate is located above the forward deck, directly in front of the wheelhouse.

Similarly, an identical structure covers the open deck space at the stern of the boat, behind the main superstructure. Previously, such "mangals" were mainly installed on armored vehicles, such as T-90M or T-72B3M tanks.

Project 21980 "Grachonok" boats carry Igla or Verba man-portable air-defense systems. They are designed to protect against low-flying aerial targets such as aircraft, helicopters, or drones.

The boat also has a remotely controlled DP-65A complex for destroying underwater saboteurs.
