A 10th-grade student, Ivan P., developed a modernized gearbox for the T-90M "Proryv" tank, which increases the estimated reverse speed from 15 to 40 km/h. The project was created at the "Altair" Children's Technopark of RTU MIREA.
The schoolboy proposed changing the gearbox scheme by adding a reverse system with two rows of gears and an additional clutch disc. This layout allows for a higher gear ratio for reverse movement.
According to the young developer's calculations, the reverse speed increases almost threefold – up to 40 km/h. The gearbox model was created in KOMPAS-3D and tested on a plastic prototype printed on a 3D printer.
It should be noted that the problem of slow reverse movement is one of the weaknesses of Russian tanks. The T-90M can accelerate forward up to 70 km/h, but reverse speed is limited.
