Russia has proposed creating a network of 15 high-level biosafety laboratories by 2030. The initiative aims for faster detection of dangerous infections and rapid response to biological threats.
This proposal was put forward by representatives of "Yedinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) following discussions at the "Yest' Rezultat!" (There is a Result!) forum in St. Petersburg. As Deputy Alexander Sidyakin noted, the developments will be included in the technological block of the national program.
The new laboratories are expected to increase diagnostic speed and expand research capabilities. Concurrently, it is proposed to ensure that at least 80% of citizens have access to molecular genetic diagnostics for infections within 24 hours.
A separate direction is the development of rapid test systems. According to the initiative, these are planned to be created within four days after the detection of a new biological threat.
According to Sidyakin, the speed of diagnosis directly affects the effectiveness of treatment and the containment of infection spread. It is important that such capabilities are available not only in large cities but also in the regions.
