Russian software is on the rise again: the market has turned around after the decline

Foreign sales reached almost 6 billion dollars

In 2025, Russian IT companies increased sales abroad after several years of decline. According to the Russoft association, exports reached $5.9–6.2 billion, adding up to 10% year-on-year.

The trend is confirmed by the statistics of the Central Bank: the export of computer services increased by 14.8% and amounted to 2.1 billion dollars — for the first time in recent years after a series of declines.

The main driver is external markets. Russian developers are increasingly entering the CIS countries, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Africa. Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and China are among the most promising destinations.

The reason is the cooling down inside the country. The growth rate of the Russian IT market has noticeably decreased, and exports have become a way for many companies to compensate for the drop in demand and maintain revenue.

At the same time, the domestic market is still growing — in 2025, it increased by 21% and reached 808 billion rubles. However, a slowdown is expected in the coming years.

The industry itself is also changing. Companies have become more cautious about hiring employees, and some tasks — especially testing and writing code — are gradually going to AI. As a result, demand is shifting towards more experienced specialists who can work with architecture and data.

At the same time, the shortage of strong personnel remains: there are still not enough ready-made specialists of middle and high level, and their cost remains high.

As a result, the market is being rebuilt: Russian software is increasingly going abroad, and within the country, companies are starting to optimize costs and change their approach to development.
