Since 2000, Russia has regularly sent foreign astronauts, including Americans, to the International Space Station (ISS). They are delivered into orbit by manned ships of the Soyuz MS family. Since 2020, American astronauts have begun flying to the ISS on Crew Dragon ships (owned by Elon Musk's SpaceX).

In the summer of 2022, Roscosmos and NASA signed an agreement on cross-flights. The document specifies the conditions for delivering Russian and American astronauts on Soyuz MS and Crew Dragon ships to the ISS and back in the event of an emergency.
