Russia and Belarus plan to launch a unified electronic digital signature (EDS) to confirm financial transactions in 2026, according to Dmitry Krutoy, Head of the Presidential Administration of the Republic.
The stage of equipment transfer and completion of the construction of a full-fledged infrastructure is underway, when we will be able to recognize all operations in electronic form.
Currently, more than 95% of payments between Russia and Belarus are made in national currencies. This year, settlements in digital currencies between the National Bank of Belarus and the Central Bank of Russia may be introduced.
According to the Belarusian official, both initiatives will negate the effect of Western sanctions aimed at the financial sector. In addition, third countries may be interested in this mechanism and switch to new financial instruments.
