Earlier, it was reported that the plant had begun assembling vehicles under the Jaecoo brand — the J6, J7, and J8 crossovers.

The General Motors plant opened in 2008, but in 2015 its operations were suspended after the American concern left. The site was purchased by Hyundai in 2020 with plans to produce the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage models, but in March 2022 production stopped due to supply problems.

In 2024, the plant was acquired by AGR Holding. In mid-February of the same year, the enterprise was renamed "AGR Automobile Plant".

Earlier, www1.ru reported that the former GM plant in St. Petersburg would be recommissioned by 2026.
