The new Russian BTR-22 armored personnel carrier will be presented at the international defense and security exhibition World Defense Show 2026 in Saudi Arabia. Before that, it had only been shown at events inside the country.
It should be noted that the "22nd" differs significantly from earlier models. For example, the engine-transmission compartment was moved to the front part of the hull. At the rear there are doors that allow troops to disembark under the protection of armor.
It is armed with a 30 mm 2A42 (or 2A72) automatic cannon and a 7.62 mm PKTM machine gun. The effectiveness of weapon use is ensured by a sight with a thermal imaging channel and a laser rangefinder.
The full weight of the BTR-22 is 20 tons, capacity is 11 personnel, engine power is 330–360 hp, and the maximum highway speed is up to 100 km/h.
The BTR can be fitted with the unmanned gun-missile module "Ballista", which will also be shown at the exhibition.
