Upgraded T-90M "Proryv" tanks will for the first time receive an updated active protection system (APS) with an anti-drone mode to counter attack unmanned aerial vehicles. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defence.
A representative of the ministry said that specialists refined the software of the system and introduced a new "Anti-Drone" mode.
Work is now focused on installing an active protection system that will directly counter drones, shooting them down on approach.
The "Arena-M" active protection system will begin working against fiber-optic drones, automatically neutralizing any threats by launching an interceptor projectile at the incoming target. The system has already been tested on upgraded T-72B3A tanks.
At the same time, modernization is underway for the already proven metal tank protection, the so-called "grill." Specialists developed a foldable structure that covers the upper projection of the hull and turret.
In addition, specialists from the Mechanical Engineering Design Bureau proposed modifying the "Arena-M" specifically for destroying drones.
