European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has decided to abandon Google services, fearing data leaks and pressure from the United States. The corporation has begun searching for a new "sovereign European" cloud contractor to host key IT systems, from CRM and ERP to aircraft production and lifecycle management.
The reason for this decision was the new American Cloud Act, which allows US authorities to request data even if it is physically stored outside the country. In this regard, Airbus intends to keep critical information under its own control.
As a reminder, Airbus aircraft are still massively operated in Russia, where access to the manufacturer's digital services has long been a problem. The largest carriers are Aeroflot, S7, Ural Airlines, and Aurora, with a total of about 100 aircraft. How the situation with Google will affect them is still unknown.
However, the Airbus aircraft available to Russian airlines are becoming obsolete, the Ministry of Transport noted. In this regard, the volume of traffic in the Russian Federation will decrease.
To replace them, Russia is building new import-substituted MC-21 and Superjet aircraft, but both aircraft are still undergoing certification. When real deliveries will begin is unknown.
