Expert Reveals Possible Cause of An-22 "Antei" Crash Near Ivanovo

A test flight after repairs could have triggered a critical system failure

Oleg Smirnov, an Honored Pilot of the USSR, has suggested a technical cause for the crash of the An-22 "Antei" military transport aircraft in the Ivanovo region. In his opinion, a key factor in the investigation may be the fact that the flight was a test flight and was performed after the completion of repair work.

It is important to understand that this is an aircraft from the last century. Its serial production has long been discontinued. As a result, serious problems arise with the supply of spare parts, components and parts for engines. The aircraft fleet of these machines has exhausted its original resource, and complex and large-scale work is required to extend the service life through restoration and modernization.

Smirnov emphasized that the most likely cause of the accident was the failure of one of the onboard units, systems, or engines. According to his assessment, such a failure could have been triggered either by fatigue of structural materials or by shortcomings that arose during the restoration work - especially against the background of the limited capabilities of the modern repair base to support outdated aviation equipment.

As a reminder, on December 9, a transport aircraft An-22 crashed in the Furmanovsky district of the Ivanovo region. There were seven crew members on board. The investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing.

Earlier, www1.ru wrote that the An-22 "Antei" being prepared for disposal were planned to be used for some time.
