The United Engine Corporation (UEC, part of Rostec) has officially revealed the breakthrough technological solutions applied in the new fifth-generation engine — 177S. UEC noted that in engineering art, the designers demonstrated "top-class performance."
So, the 177S uses improved cooling of critical elements and the latest heat-resistant materials and coatings in the hot section.
In addition, the unit has optimized the aerodynamics of the flow path and turbines. The engine also received digital control systems that provide the most efficient operating modes, UEC added.
As a reminder, the basic configuration of the 177S has a thrust of 14.5 tons, while the engine life has tripled compared to the previous generation. This significantly extends its service life.
Aviation expert Roman Gusarov, in an interview with «Первым техническим», suggested that a promising Russian supersonic aircraft may receive a 177S engine.
