Before the introduction of new recycling fee rules, which will take effect from December 1, 2025, an assessment was made of the popularity among Russians of cars with a power of over 160 horsepower. According to the Avtostat agency, such cars account for almost 32% of the total number of new passenger cars sold in Russia since the beginning of the year.
From January to October 2025, almost 340 thousand cars with powerful engines were sold in the country. The total sales volume of cars for this period amounted to 1,061,625 units. Thus, every third car turned out to be more powerful than 160 horsepower.
In the import structure, the share of powerful cars is even more pronounced: in October, 69% of new and 46% of used cars had engines with a power of more than 160 horsepower.
Cars manufactured in Russia belong to a less powerful category. For ten months of this year, only 11% of them were equipped with engines with a power of more than 160 horsepower.
According to the new rules, the recycling fee will be calculated at revised rates. Preferential terms will be available only to cars with a power of up to 160 horsepower. Also, the amounts of the recycling fee will be determined not only by the engine capacity, but also by its output, taking into account a progressive scale. These changes will take effect on December 1.
