The Ministry is working on the feasibility of using AI

The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation plans to create a catalog of the most effective practices for using artificial intelligence in the higher education system and develop recommendations for implementing specific AI tools.

As part of the project preparation, the ministry, together with the expert community, conducted a survey among universities and scientific organizations. About 600 institutions engaged in educational and research activities took part in the survey.

According to preliminary data, 46% of the survey participants regularly use AI in one or more processes. Most often, technologies are used in research work: checking works for plagiarism — 37%, analyzing big data — 24%, processing and bibliographic processing of scientific literature — 18%. In addition, AI is actively being introduced into management and administrative processes (32%), communication and promotion (24%), as well as educational activities (23%).

Tools of generative AI are gaining particular popularity, which allow accelerating work processes and reducing the time for completing routine tasks. The Ministry notes that the introduction of AI should be aimed at reducing the administrative burden, increasing the efficiency of the educational process and developing students' cognitive abilities, critical thinking and social skills.

The Ministry of Education and Science emphasizes the need to take into account the risks when using AI, especially generative technologies. Based on the collected data, a detailed catalog of practices and methodological recommendations will be prepared, which will help educational organizations safely and effectively implement modern artificial intelligence tools.

The Ministry of Education and Science plans to gradually introduce artificial intelligence into higher education and scientific activities in Russia.
