The sun doesn't sleep: three strong flares recorded on October 16

The M2.7 flare lasted the longest — 51 minutes

On the night of Thursday, October 16, astronomers recorded three flares of the penultimate power class M on the Sun. This was reported in the press service of the "Institute of Applied Geophysics named after Academician E. K. Fedorov" (FSBI "IPG")

On October 16, at 01:28 Moscow time, an M2.7 flare lasting 51 minutes was recorded. At 02:45 Moscow time, an M2.4 flare lasting 15 minutes was recorded. At 03:21 Moscow time, an M1.1 flare lasting 7 minutes was recorded.

The flares occurred within the same group of sunspots.

Strong flares on the Sun have resumed contrary to forecasts since October 13. The response of geomagnetic indices is expected from Thursday.
