A new group of Russian military personnel has begun training to work with 7.62-mm Dragunov sniper rifles with folding stocks (SVDS). The Kalashnikov concern (part of the Rostec Group) noted that the SVDS is best suited for countering heavy hexacopters such as the "Baba Yaga".
The company recalled that the serially produced 7.62-mm SVDS is a modern adaptation of the classic 7.62-mm Dragunov sniper rifle (SVD). In the troops, it received the name "whip" for the stinging sound of the shot, like a whip.
The length of the SVDS with the stock folded is only 875 mm, which allows it to be parachuted together with the sniper. The rifle is designed to reliably defeat enemy personnel and unarmored targets at ranges up to 1000 m.
In the SVDS, unlike the SVD, all wooden parts were replaced with polymer ones, and the stock was made folding with a frame structure with a non-removable swivel cheek to increase the convenience of shooting with optical devices.
When installing night and optical sights, a side rail on the receiver is used. The SVDS is equipped with open mechanical sights that allow firing at a range of up to 1200 m.
Firing from the SVDS is carried out using any type of 7.62-mm rifle cartridges, but the best results in terms of accuracy are achieved with sniper ammunition.
Main technical characteristics of the SVDS sniper rifle:
- Caliber — 7.62 mm
- Ammunition used — 7.62-mm rifle cartridge
- Magazine capacity — 10 rounds
- Weight (with magazine, without cartridges) — 4.68 kg
- Length with unfolded stock — 1135 mm
- Length with folded stock — 875 mm
- Sighting range — 1200 m
According to contracts concluded by Kalashnikov for 2025, the production of the 7.62-mm Dragunov sniper rifle and its modifications will increase significantly.
Earlier www1.ru reported that "Kinzhal" missiles can be integrated into Su-57 fighters.
