A pilot project to confirm age when purchasing and delivering energy drinks online using biometrics will be launched in Russia before the end of the year. This was announced by the head of the Center for Biometric Technologies (CBT), the operator of the Unified Biometric System, Vladislav Povolotsky.
According to him, the service will allow users to purchase age-restricted goods without presenting a passport or driver's license. The verification will take place automatically using biometric data. Experts are currently considering two scenarios: confirming age at the time of placing an order or upon receipt of the purchase.
We expect that the pilot will confirm the hypothesis about the market's readiness for online sales using biometrics. This will eliminate the possibility of minors purchasing energy drinks.
The system is being created on the basis of the Unified Biometric Platform, which is already used by banks for remote customer service. Now they want to expand its capabilities for the online retail sector.
