Sevastopol State University (Sevastopol State University) has presented an innovative method for improving the properties of recycled polyethylene. The new technology will expand the use of secondary plastic waste in economic circulation and increase its strength to the level of primary material.
University scientists add special nanoparticles to recycled polyethylene. They restore some of the mechanical properties of the plastic lost during processing and make the material suitable for more critical structures.
In fact, about 7% of recycled polyethylene is used in various products, but the problem is that mechanical properties are lost during processing. We are improving the material and increasing the proportion of recycling in economic circulation
Previously, recycled polyethylene was used only for low-strength products. Now it can be used in industrial production, where stability and reliability are important. According to the expert, the recycled material with nano-additives is approaching the characteristics of primary plastic, which opens up new opportunities for industrial enterprises.
International analogues show that the introduction of nanotechnology in plastic recycling is a trend of recent years. In Europe and Asia, materials with improved properties are being actively developed, which can be used in construction, automotive and household appliances. The Sevastopol development allows Russia to keep pace with these practices and increase the efficiency of secondary processing.
