Russian tanks cannot swim, but they can move underwater at depths of up to 5 meters. Crews undergo special diver training, according to military expert Igor Shevchuk.
According to him, during the training process, two special pipes are installed on the tank to overcome water obstacles. One serves as an air duct, and the second is designed for evacuation in case of unforeseen circumstances.
Also, each crew member is equipped with an isolating gas mask, which is used only in case of flooding of the combat vehicle. The commander gives the command to flood, the soldiers put on the gas mask, pull this pin up and away from themselves, and after that they can breathe calmly for two hours.
Even during training at the school, future tankers learn to overcome water obstacles, which gives the crew a tactical advantage. Cadets perform exercises on a T-72 tank. The maximum depth of the water obstacle is 5 meters.
To overcome it, the tank is sealed with a special sealant, and a rubber plug is put on the barrel. All this work takes about two hours.
