Built under Project 1144.2M "Orlan," the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser "Admiral Nakhimov" has set to sea for the first time in 28 years—the culmination of a deep modernization and refitting of the ship. "Nakhimov" has become one of the largest military ships in the world.
The ship's nuclear power plant contributes to high autonomy and allows "Admiral Nakhimov" to maintain maximum speed longer than ships with conventional power plants.
During the modernization, the ship's 20 vertical launchers for powerful P-700 anti-ship cruise missiles were replaced with 80 launchers for standard-sized cruise missiles.
Another 96 vertical launchers were allocated for the placement of surface-to-air missiles of the naval version of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system (SAM), which is equivalent to the firepower of three full divisions of ground-based installations of this type. All this makes "Admiral Nakhimov" the most heavily armed surface combat ship in the world.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that footage of the latest "Kalibr daddy" in the Northern Fleet with "Granat" missiles has appeared.
