TUSUR to create Russia's first phygital discipline in academic rowing

The discipline combines on-water training and simulator exercises with digital analytics

Tomsk State University of Control Systems and Radioelectronics (TUSUR) is preparing to present a new phygital discipline — academic rowing combined with indoor training. This was announced by the Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Educational Work, Vasily Shcherbakov.

TUSUR recalled that the academic rowing section has existed since 1964. The university team is among the top eight in the Student Rowing League and regularly participates in international competitions, including the "Big Moscow Regatta."

According to Shcherbakov, TUSUR remains the only university beyond the Urals where academic rowing is developed. The university is now preparing an application to the Russian Phygital Sports Federation to secure the new discipline at the official level.

The phygital format combines classic on-water training and electronic simulator exercises that allow tracking speed, distance, and other indicators. The possibility of organizing remote competitions between students from different cities is also being considered.
