The first flight under the program took place from the airfield of the Gromov Flight Research Institute in Zhukovsky, where radio communication equipment was tested.

The aircraft was piloted by a crew consisting of test pilot Hero of Russia Oleg Kononenko, Honored Test Pilot of the Russian Federation Andrey Voropaev, as well as leading flight test engineers Alexander Soloviev, Grigory Kudryashov, and Oleg Berezin. The aircraft was in the air for 4 hours, and the tests took place at various altitudes.

The start of certification testing is an important stage in the import substitution program. To obtain a type certificate for a fully domestic MC-21, it is planned to conduct about 220-230 test flights in order to be 100% confident in the safety of our future passengers.

In early May, the aircraft made a non-stop flight from Irkutsk to Zhukovsky. The aircraft is equipped with Russian electronic equipment, including computers, switches, navigation systems, and radio communication complexes.

The aircraft also received a domestic auxiliary power unit, air conditioning and pressure regulation systems, lighting equipment, and aircraft system control panels.

Russian components are included in the power supply system, hydraulic systems, and landing gear.
