The private aerospace corporation "New Space" is developing the first Russian commercial radar satellite "Oculus". The development cost exceeds 1 billion rubles. This was announced by the company's CEO, Anton Alekseev.
An optical satellite with good resolution costs about 350 million rubles, while a radar satellite costs more, but it is able to "see" at any time of the day, in any lighting, and in any weather, unlike "optics". Serial analogues of radar satellites from recent deals are estimated at around 5 billion rubles.
The device will consist of approximately 80% Russian components. Due to this, the weight of the device will be slightly greater than that of foreign analogues.
The launch of "Oculus" into orbit is planned within three years after the start of the next stage of work. The satellite will be equipped with a 4-meter antenna. It will be able to create images with a resolution of about 0.5 meters, capturing changes on the Earth's surface with an accuracy of up to 5 millimeters.
The satellite will allow tracking the displacement of pipelines, the melting of permafrost, the progress of construction projects, the filling level of oil tanks, as well as monitoring the condition of agricultural land, monitoring floods, vegetation, and river spills.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that production lines for the production of spacecraft were launched in Russia.
