The Ministry of Digital Development has announced the launch of a national messenger. Officials are confident that it will strengthen the country's digital independence. The press service of the department noted that until recently, Russia did not have its own messenger, which limited the possibilities of users. The Ministry of Digital Development believes that a domestic product will allow competing with foreign platforms and reduce the level of cyber fraud.
An important element of the new messenger will be a digital ID, which will certify the identity. Users will be able to use it as an alternative to traditional documents. The platform being created will combine the functions of a messenger and services providing state and municipal services.
Users will be able to use the messenger to confirm their age instead of a passport. The department has already submitted the corresponding amendments to the State Duma, and the second reading of the bill is scheduled for June 10.
