France officially announced on April 29 that Russia has been conducting cyberattacks against French organizations for many years. According to French intelligence agencies, the APT28 hacker group (also known as "Fancy Bear") has been stealing information and creating chaos in the country for more than 10 years.
A particularly high-profile scandal erupted after the leak of President Macron's email before the 2017 elections. French authorities are confident that the hackers' goal was to influence public opinion and create panic among the population.
Since 2021, the number of cyberattacks has increased dramatically. Government agencies, banks, aviation and defense companies, organizers of the Olympic Games, and the media have been targeted.
French officials claim that these actions were aimed at "stealing information and creating unrest" in the country.
