According to the latest forecast from IKI RAN and ISZF SO RAN, magnetic activity on Earth will significantly increase from April 22.
Today, April 21, the geomagnetic situation will be calm. The probability of magnetic storms is only 7%.
The situation will change from the evening of April 22. The forecast indicates an 85% probability of a magnetic storm on April 22 and 23. On these days, the Kp index will exceed 5, which corresponds to a magnetic storm of level G1 (weak storm), and may reach level G2 at peak moments, which means a moderate storm.
The Kp index measures the degree of disturbance of the Earth's magnetic field on a scale from 0 to 9. Levels of 5 and above are considered storms.
The Ap index is an indicator of the average daily level of geomagnetic activity. On these days, it will increase from 8 to 15, which confirms the increase in geomagnetic disturbances.
An increase in solar activity is recorded: the level of solar radiation flux F10.7 will rise from 150 to 155 units, which indicates an increased release of energy from the Sun, affecting the Earth's magnetosphere.
At the end of April and the beginning of May, from the 4th to the 8th, a new wave of geomagnetic disturbances is expected. On these days, storms of levels G1–G2 are possible, which means the continuation of geomagnetic activity at the beginning of next month. After May 10, the situation should stabilize.
