The Russian national domain .RU celebrated the 31st anniversary of its registration in the IANA database on April 7, 2025.
More than 5.8 million names are registered in the .RU domain zone. According to the Coordination Center for .RU/.РФ Domains, 96.8% of them are actively used, and 84.7% of them belong to Russian administrators.
Over the past year, the .RU zone has grown by 5%: 281.8 thousand domains have been added, and the number of new registrations exceeded 1.7 million. Businesses and individuals demonstrate high involvement — the number of administrators reached 2.02 million.
Almost half of the domains (49.1%) are used for hosting websites and web applications, and 16.8% are used for mail services.
In 2024, the Coordination Center achieved a record reduction in response time to cyber threats: blocking phishing resources in the .RU zone now takes 13.5 hours, compared to 21.5 hours a year earlier. The "Domain Patrol" project made it possible to reverse the negative trend and increase confidence in the national segment.
In parallel, the .РФ domain is developing, which is gaining popularity among small businesses and regional authorities. Cyrillic addresses enhance digital inclusion, making the Internet more accessible to Russian-speaking users.
On April 7, 1994, Russia received the national domain .RU, registered by the international network center InterNIC. RosNIIROS became the domain administrator.
