In 2025, Russia may experience a 40% year-on-year decrease in new car sales. This was reported by Sergey Tselikov, General Director of the Autostat agency.
Sales of new passenger cars in Russia for the first half of March amounted to just over 40,000 units. By the end of the month, the figure will slightly exceed 80,000 units. This is approximately 2.6% more than the disastrous sales in February and, probably, 10% lower than January. And in annual terms, the market may shrink by 40%.
According to Sergey Tselikov, people are in no hurry to buy, but are waiting for more favorable conditions. Firstly, due to high rates, citizens prefer to keep money in deposits and receive interest. Secondly, a lot of cars have accumulated in warehouses, which may lead to lower prices. Russians are waiting for prices to become even more attractive.
In addition, the strengthening of the ruble and rumors about the return of foreign brands are forcing people not to rush into buying, the expert notes.
Analysts predict that demand for cars will increase again in the second half of the year.
Earlier, Xcite is leaving the market, but loans will have to be repaid for several more years. More than 90% of the brand's cars were purchased on credit
