Novosibirsk State University (NSU) plans to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to improve the efficiency of Russian satellites. This was announced by Dmitry Churkin, Vice-Rector for Research at NSU.
We want to take the next step so that the data is not transmitted raw, since the transport capacity of communication channels is limited, but so that data is pre-processed using neural network models on board. There are limitations in terms of energy and performance, we now understand how to improve the efficiency of small spacecraft by introducing these technologies.
According to him, currently the onboard equipment of satellites registers data and transmits it to Earth for processing. The new approach will allow processing information in orbit and transmitting it to Earth faster.
We will make a satellite, there will be special boards and software, it will be tested, debugged and launched into orbit.
The project will take 2-3 years to implement
