Beeline CEO Sergei Anokhin, in an interview with Vedomosti, spoke about the reasons for the slowdown of YouTube in Russia.
According to him, the problem is related to the aging of the video distribution network (CDN), which is no longer being developed or supported after the official departure of the service owner from the country.
Anokhin noted that due to the growing amount of content, the equipment cannot cope with the load, and telecom operators, including Beeline, are facing a flood of complaints from users. He emphasized that the providers themselves do not limit the data transfer rate, and the difficulties are caused by technical problems on the YouTube side.
In December 2024, Russian providers also stated that they had not introduced restrictions on YouTube traffic, and the slowdown of the platform was caused by external factors.
